Art and Music Therapy

Art therapy is a unique form of a psychotherapy that encourages self-expression through painting, drawing or moulding. It has a special ability to unlock emotional expression through nonverbal communication. It also improves psychological health, cognitive abilities and sensory-motor skills. Art therapy also assists in the improving of self-esteem, promotes self-awareness and provides alternative ways of communication for individuals who wish to express anxiety, pain and difficult emotions. Similarly, Music therapy is an evidence based clinical use of musical intervention that is structured to improve quality of life. Therapeutic use of music supports the physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs of an individual by using both active and receptive musical experiences. This in turn, helps in the provision of emotional support and assists in physical rehabilitation. It can also be a medium to express feelings and improve nonverbal communication.
